A weekend away filled with adventure, history, nightlife, and cultural diversity. Welcome, fellow wanderers, to the enchanting island of Bahrain! Nestled in the Arabian Gulf, this small but mighty Kingdom holds a treasure trove of experiences for the curious traveller. Prepare to embark on an exciting journey, where you'll delve into Bahrain's rich historical tapestry, embrace its electrifying nightlife, and immerse yourself in the vibrant fusion of cultures that grace this captivating destination.

Chapter 1:

Our adventure begins by stepping back in time, and exploring Bahrain's fascinating historical heritage. Start your weekend with a visit to the Bahrain National Museum, where centuries-old artifacts and captivating exhibitions reveal the Kingdom's ancient past. Wander through the ancient Qal'at al-Bahrain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and let the remnants of an ancient civilization transport you to bygone eras.

Chapter 2:

The melting pot of Bahrains culture; attracting visitors from all corners of the globe. As you navigate the bustling streets, you'll encounter a kaleidoscope of cultures, each contributing to the vibrant life of Bahraini society. Engage in lively conversations with locals and fellow travelers, savoring the diverse culinary delights, that range from traditional Bahraini dishes to international gastronomic adventures. Having breakfast at the Irish pub, Benniigan’s, lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel, and dinner at the beautiful Art Rotana Hotel surrounded by a beautiful beach, big palm trees, and stunning fairy lights.

Story Time;

Picture this: It's Halloween weekend, and major football sports events are taking place. You find yourself staying in a hotel in the heart of Bahrain's vibrant city. As the sun sets, an air of good food, drinks, and a lot of cigarette smoke fills the atmosphere. The hotel lobby is adorned with spooky decorations, and people are gathering to celebrate the festivities. You mingle with people from all walks of life, from locals dressed in traditional attire to fellow travellers who've journeyed from far-flung lands. In this case; a tour group from Germany! I have been learning German for the past two months, however, I will never forget my inability to reply when the woman in the elevator spoke the basic words “guten abend” as she walked out of the elevator. Anyway, the night was a celebration of cultural diversity, where different traditions merge seamlessly under the spell of good spirit.

Chapter 3:

When the sun sets on a Friday evening, the nightlife ignites as darkness blankets the island. Bahrain transforms into a haven for night owls seeking unforgettable experiences. From chic lounges to pulsating nightclubs. During our stay at the Diva Hotel, we had the privilege to experience the rooftop nightclub, 8th-floor cocktail lounge, and 1st-floor bar, the energy was electric. Passionate football supporters flooded the hotel and all it had to offer. This truly gave me insight into what Bahrain nightlife has to offer! It also came to be that the Rugby World Cup finals would take place on Saturday the 28th of October. South Africa against New Zealand in the finals. As a South African, I was ‘satisfied’, to say the least. South Africa’s Springboks claimed the World Cup 2023 as they beat New Zealand 12-11! So overall, it was a well-celebrated weekend in Bahrain.

Chapter 4:

Explore Serene escapes and natural wonders after enjoying the night's escapades. It's time to recharge your senses. Bahrain offers serene escapes amidst its natural wonders. Head to Al Areen Wildlife Park, where you can spot exotic animals in their natural habitats, indulge in a rejuvenating spa retreat at one of the island's luxury resorts, or explore the Bahrain International Circuit. Breathe in the salty air as you stroll along the picturesque coastline, basking in the tranquillity that embraces this island paradise.

As my weekend adventure comes to an end, I bid farewell to Bahrain, carrying with me the memories (and a Rugby World Champion 2023 title) holding near to my heart the vibrant tapestry of history, nightlife, cultural diversity, and the people who call this enchanting island home, Bahrain.
